I downloaded Linux Lite last night. I currently am running windows 8, but it seems that for whatever reason it's telling me that it can't open the compressed files. Is there anyone who can help me? Michael Rossie @ mikerossie@outlook.com.

Answer to the question

If you're saying you're trying to open the downloaded Linux Lite file and Windows 8 is telling you that it cannot open the compressed files, then I would say the *.iso file you downloaded isn't intended to work that way.  You need to burn that image file to a dvd or use a program like Rufus to burn it to a usb flash drive.  Also, it's worth it to look at the official Linux Lite Install Guide seen here:  https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/.

Rufus can be acquired here:  https://rufus.akeo.ie/.

Answer to the question

windows 8 uses zip files. unzip by default is not part of archive manager. you need to install unzip which you should find in your repository like:-

apt-get install unzip
