Answer to the question

Most Linux distributions based on Ubuntu will allow you the option to "Install Alongside Windows."  You should see this option in the installation process.  This will give your computer a dual booting capacity between Linux and Windows 10.  I personally use Linux Lite (www.linuxliteos.com).  For your computer you may like also consider Linux Mint (www.linuxmint.com).

Answer to the question

The most convenient thing to do (since you want to keep Windows) is to install VirtualBox first (https://www.virtualbox.org), and then install the Linux of your choice into a virtual machine. You can install many different Linux distros as virtual machines to test them out and see what you like. Or you can burn various Linux distros to a USB stick and boot/run them as a "live version" instead of installing also.

Real installation of an operating system to your hard drive is not a trivial matter, and you can easily find yourself in a position where Windows will not boot. If you are really set on doing this, I highly recommend that you make a Dell Recovery Set (on DVD or USB... find it in your Windows apps) and back up everything that is critical for you to keep before you begin. If things go badly, and they sometimes do, then you'll need to reinstall Windows from scratch as well as your other software and files.

Good luck!
