Since the you have a network connection after a boot, the problem is not whether the kernel found and loaded a driver. The question is why did it stop working. When you click on the Network Manager icon, does it still show the WiFi channel? What is the signal strenght of your connection? Is there more than one channel available?

You really need to give us some more information. What distro are you running...

You really need to give us some more information. What distro are you running? What wireless card are you using? How did you install the drivers for that card? Are you trying to attach to wireless router or a public wifi? Are you using encryption like WAP or WEP?
Input, we need Input.

im running ubuntu 9.10
im using a usb wireless reciever with no drivers installed because the drivers wont install but the computer is still able to use the device. im trying to connect to the wireless router in my house

Who is the manufacturer of the wireless adapter, and what model is it? Could you maybe do a lsusb while it is still working, and then again after it stops working and tail tail -20 /var/log/dmesg after it stops working, and provide us with that data?
