Netbooks, VirtualBox and Linux???

I have an EMachine netbook with Windows XP on it. I do not want to delete Windows XP right now but I want to learn more about Linux using VirtualBox on it. Currently, I am having the hardest time finding a Linux Distro that I can use on my netbook and VirtualBox. The luck that I am having are either the distro running dangerous slow, or I get a fatal error message and VirtualBox stops running.

So, I am asking for some serious help with my netbook/linux issue... Thanks in advance.

Good Day, Arochester....

I have an eMachine EM250-1915 with 2GB of RAM.... I have tried LXLE but it runs so slow during the installation that I had to stop and restart several times with no luck...

Answer to the question

Two possible problems.

1) emachines I have experienced use SiS video. Many Linux distros don't support that out-of-the-box. I have had some luck with LXLE Linux >>> http://www.lxle.net/

2) When you virtualise about half of the memory gets used by the virtualisation e.g. If you have 2gb or RAM about 1Gb will go to the virtualisation -  low for many distros. Netbooks tend to be low powered . What is the MAKE and MODEL of your netbook and how much RAM do you have?
