Static IP fails terribly

I have an Apache2 Server setup on my virtualbox Ubuntu 11.04 pc. I am tired of the DHCP ip constantly changing everyday. I set up the server to use a static IP...afterwords, the server pc would no longer work on the internet and my guest pc (which is also host of the virtualbox pc) could no longer connect to the server. But, after changing the settings from static ip 192.168... back to DHCP, internet worked and the guest could get into the server. Is there anyway to get it up with static ip where internet works and the guest can get into the server?

Sorry for the cross posting for your other question about virtualhosts....

You probably have problems with your default route. Try:

route add default gw 192.168.0.1

If that IP is the one of your router
