What is the best version to run on my home gaming desktop as a newbie to Linux?

Microsoft has broken the last straw with me,
What is the best version of Linux to run on my home gaming Mid-Tower?
Gigabyte-970A-D3 running AM3 CPU Bios, FX-Quad Core, 16 Gig Ram,
3.0 Sata Drive w/3 TB HD, 3.0 USB.
Help? Anyone? lol

This will be hard to answer. You will not get the full gaming support you had with Windows. If you are a Steam user, you will have access to some games possibly. For Steam, the easiest will be to use Ubuntu or Linux Mint.

Actually, there's hunderds of different distro's ('linux versions' are called distributions or in short, distro's) and all of them will do fine on your machine.
As you're a newbie, I guess the best start is Ubuntu. There's lots of support for ubuntu on the internet, so it's a great place to take your first steps.
And if you for some reason do not like ubuntu, you could consider switching to a more enterprise oriented distro such as fedora or opensuse.
