What Linux OS supports generic or even any Web cam drivers???

I have a Emprix USB webcam and I cannot find out how to get a driver for it to work on linux mint 12. can I use another linux os to get it to work?

Well, I can only speak from personal experience and that means Debian. Also, just for future reference, no operating system, Linux or otherwise, supports more hardware or software than Debian.

there is a module under Linux called SPCA5xx that supports most webcams, so most are supported out of the box. It sometimes helps to get the latest version of the module (you can google it, it's easy to find)
Have you tried programs like cheese or camorama ? sometimes only one of them works with a specific cam.

Was unable to find valuable information concerning your question. What I can say, stick with devices made by, sony, hp, dell, or compaq. These manufactures have a good track record of your products being supported under linux.
