What Linux OS would be best for music production?

I am currently working on producing my own music. I have a laptop with Windows that I use. I have a friend that will be working closely with me on many of my projects. Since he lives a good distance away, we will be sharing sound files and editing them separately. He has a laptop that needs an OS. What Linux system(s) would be best suited for music production? Or is there no one answer? Would Mint work just fine?

That's a good question. I don't think it comes down to the Linux distribution so much as it comes down to the applications needed. But if you don't know the apps you'll need, Ubuntu Studio is a good distro that comes with the tools one would expect for audio editing.

Start there, Ubuntu Studio. You can get a gander at it here http://www.linuxscreenshots.org/?release=Ubuntu Studio 15.04 and here http://distrowatch.com/ubuntustudio.
