I also use Gmail for my important correspondence, IMHO second to none in the way they filter spam. I think only one important email in the past year wound up in the spam folder, and yes, not lost because I could retrieve it there.
When I click on the pad and pencil icon on any of my old answers, I still get the opportunity to check the "notify me" box. I don't know if that will send all the answers that follow it to your mailbox, probably not, but if you add another post to the answers thread, you will at least get those posts that follow.
Anyway, glad we sort of worked that out.

P.S. I'd rather shovel snow than shovel proprietary OS code any day…

BTW - That is so true. Although we've had a record amount of snowfall here for February, so I'm tired of shovelling anything at the moment.

Take Care
Tom

I find that gmail sucks-less than the others. They put potential spam into an easily viewable folder. So far none of follow-ups have landed in there. Probably what happened was a delay betwixt linux.com and gmail.com plus I forgot to select the checkbox on some of my posts. Now does anyone know how to go back and select a checkbox which is no longer there?

P.S. I'd rather shovel snow than shovel proprietary OS code any day...

Sorry for the delay, but I've been shoveling snow again here on Long Island in New York. I seem to be getting all the replies in my mailbox, so the Notify me of follow-up comments check box seems to be working correctly. I'm wondering if some of the answers that you are not receiving are winding up being lost going through a spam filter by your email service. I have many mailboxes, Aol, Gmail, Yahoo and some private ISP's (Don't ask, I've been collecting them for 20 years). I don't use Yahoo and just stopped using the email service from my first ISP because I was loosing too many messages due to their spam filters. You might want to experiment with another service just to see if delivery of new comments works more reliably.

Also click on "Notify me of follow-up comments" checkbox if you want email updates of answers.

Test Answer, if someone else could add a test answer I'd appreciate it.

If you check the box and no answer comes to your mailbox, this needs to be fixed. I'm going to check the box on this answer and see if I can find out what is going on.

And when there is an answer, why does'nt it "Notify me of follow-up comments"? I've selected the checkbox for that but never get any notification! Also have been forced to bookmark every question I make (or answer) because the search on this web-app really sucks. Some keyworks it finds, others it doesn't. Its very unreliable...

The answers are right under the questions. Unless no one has answered yet. Which is not common for questions asked in Linux.com.
