Which distro of Linux for netbook?

I have a small msi U135DX netbook with an Intel Atom N455 cpu, 2GB ram and 250GB hdd. I have no knowledge of Linux but cut my teeth on early DOS. I would like to use this net book to try Linux so which disro and version would you recommend? Thanks.

i have simplicity puppy on my netbook that also has 2gb ram and found it lightning fast and reliable. It has plenty apps for playing music, videos etc. and a huge repository to allow easy installation of programs through the puppy package manager. It is also a nice looking desktop with icons for the main programs using plank ( mac look alike)

Any XFCE based Linux distribution will work well on a less powerful computer. Many advise that beginners start out with Linux Mint. Therefor, choose the XFCE version of Linux Mint. Another popular suggestion is Xubuntu, the XFCE version of Ubuntu.

If you want to keep your Windows, chose "Install alongside ..." when answering questions during the installation process.
