Why after upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04 does my cd rom says all my disks are blank?

No matter what cd I put in the drive, they all say blank disk. I KNOW this is not the case, but how can I get the drive to recognize it? I updated from a previous version of Ubuntu.

as Rechil stated it might be a bit of dust...

but what did you upgrade from and why 10.04 ?
Ubuntu 11.04 is the current .

If i had to guess i would say you have a busted upgrade . What is called a "Frankensteined " install .A mix of to different versions of the Operating System .
If that is the problem A 100% clean new install is the best fix
also i would recommend installing 11.04 unless there is a MANDATORY need for the older 10

May be the cdrom laser dirty and creates the problem. Try using a CD Cleaner...
