Why don't the helpers help?

I see lots of questions answered with questions. I have yet to see a helpful answer to a question. I want to use linux. I sure want to get rid of windows. I would even be happy to pay for a good distro. However if things don't work, what do we do? i would be happy to see fixes being put into place. There are some brilliant minds adding to linux, yet to get games to work it still seems windows, sadly, is the only way to go.

I agree with the previous responders; once you've chosen a distro (think of it like choosing a new car - everyone will tell you that their one is the best, but they all go from A to B very effectively these days), use that distro's forums, as well as here, to get help. Distro-website forums are usually well-populated not only with people who will respond, but often also with lots of ready-made answers to your queries.

It's simple. We need more detail. Many questions is: Why is ______ not working? or How do I do ______? without detail. Sometimes there are two different reasons something could be happening and detail is needed to find which.

I know what you mean. But some of these questions really are distribution specific. Meaning they might be addressed within the documentation of the Linux distribution the user chooses, or within the support forum of the Linux distribution the user chooses. It's hard for this site to be a catch all for every Linux offering.

On that note, from personal experience, I would recommend the Linux distribution called Linux Lite. Very good documentation and support forum. You can find them at www.linuxliteos.com.
