Yes. All you must do is download an Ubuntu iso image, burn it to a CD or DVD, and insert it into your computer on startuup. You may have to hit the hotkey of your BIOS, (for example, F1, F2, F3, and so forth) to bring up the BIOS menu, and set it to boot from a CD. Once that disk is booted, you can then load up the live system of Ubuntu, where you can choose to install it to the primary hard disk. Have fun!

Yes you can run Ubuntu on an computer without windows installed, in fact administration get simplified without having to babysit the potential issues caused by windows update.

All you would need to do in run the installer from the disk or flash drive (whichever installer you choose) and choose to use the whole disk, which will remove your windows and other partitions and allocate all disk space to ubuntu.

Yes!...

Yes!

You can take an Ubuntu CD (burned by you, or obatined from Canonical / Ubuntu via snail mail for free) and pop it into the CDROM Drive of your computer. If it's a modern computer, you should be able to direct the BIOIS to allow you to boot from CDROM. This will give you the option of booting the "live CD" to test Ubuntu. This will also give you the option to just go for it an install Ubuntu.

If you cannot boot from a CDROM, let me know, as this can be much more difficult.
