Hello everyone

Greetings all. I am brand new to Unix/Linux etc operating systems and I have been considering switching from Microsoft ever since they stopped using MSDos 5. Am getting real frustrated with the weaknesses and instability of the windows OSs and also don't want to have to buy a new computer every couple of years in order to have support from the maker of the OS. Have never had anything much to do with apple OS either, never really liked it because I could never find anything on a Mac or apple, including instructions/help. Also could not justify the extra thousand or two I would have to pay for one. I have no formal training computer wise but have been tinkering with them for about 20 years or so and have learned much from books and more lately from internet resources.
So tell me is it true that Apple/Mac OS is a Unix/Beos clone/copy?
