NETWORK IS RUNNING EVEN IF NETWORK SERVICES IS OFF

hi to all
I just want to know one thing. I had stop the network service in
ubuntu, still i can able to ping google.com.what u think might be
things to consider. these are the outputs see.

root@jeetendra-desktop:~# /etc/init.d/networking stop
