Smart Citizen Pursues Open Source, Crowdsourced Environmental Monitoring

A new effort called Smart Citizen has arrived on crowdsourced, crowd funding site Kickstarter, and it's basically an open source effort to provide sophisticated environmental monitoring based on collective input from crowds. Smart Citizen is a mashup of an open-source Arduino-compatible device, an open-source API, a mobile app and an interactive, crowdsourced data visualization platform on the web.

According to the Smart Citizen site: "Smart Citizen is a platform to generate participatory processes of the people in the cities.  Connecting data, people and knowledge, the objective of the platform is  to serve as a node for building productive open indicators and  distributed tools, and thereafter the collective construction of the  city for its own inhabitants."

    Really great project! Good to see them go viral worldwide. This project shows that the power is with the crowd making this project successful.
