Robert Demmer writes “PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC – September 4, 2003 – NetBeans.org, the open source java IDE and platform project announces
immediate availability of a popular co-bundle. Included are
the latest release of NetBeans – NetBeans IDE 3.5.1, along
with Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition, 1.4.2 , available for
download from the Java Software web site.
The co-bundle contains versions of the NetBeans IDE 3.5.1, in English, Chinese and Japanese.

Version 1.4.2 of the Java 2 SDK, Standard edition builds
upon Java technology’s cross-platform support and robust
security model with new features and functionality, enhanced
performance and scalability, and improved reliability and
serviceability. Find the complete documentation on
enhancements and changes at java.com
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/changes.html.

The NetBeans IDE 3.5.1 release contains bug fixes that
improve the IDE’s handling of text when the IDE’s default
font size is increased. These fixes were necessary to
create a Chinese localization, since the Chinese characters
require a larger font size to be readable.

Focus of developmemt on the NetBeans IDE 3.5 and 3.5.1
releases was focused almost entirely on performance.
Both startup time and general UI responsiveness have
improved significantly. In addition to that, several
modules, previously available on the Update Center, have
been added to the standard distribution. These modules
provide many features, including support for:

  • debugging servlets and applications written with JSP
    technology.
  • creating and editing JSP tag libraries.
  • monitoring HTTP requests.
  • WAR file packaging.
  • connecting to and browsing databases.

More information including system requirements, installation
and upgrade instructions can be found in the README file:
