UK Government abandons Microsoft Word

John McCreesh writes “BBC News reports: The UK government has now largely abandoned Microsoft Word for official documents and has turned to documents created using Adobe Acrobat which uses the Portable Data Format (PDF).
Advocates of the leading open-source office suite, OpenOffice.org, are quick to point out that their imminent 1.1 release is not only a replacement for Microsoft Word; it also reads Word documents, and can create PDFs from them in one open-source package. Just what the spin-doctor ordered!”
