Banshee 1.0 is a product that locked up three times on my openSUSE machine in less than ten minutes after installing. The user interface isn't terribly intuitive either.

I too am running openSUSE (11.0) with gnome. I like this version better than the previous, although I was expecting the software equalizer, only to read that it has been disabled (some gstreamer issue, I guess). A minor issue I discovered is that after sorting my music by file location, Banshee 1.0 does not save it, and I have to keep resorting every time I reopen the program. I don't particularly use the video capabilities, as I prefer just an audio player, but what the heck.

I do not care about the video either. The best audio player I found for my huge collection is GMusicBrowser. I'm always surprised that almost nobody knows it. I guess it's because its default configuration is not very flashy, to say the least :( But it's really worth a second look :)

play everything? the answer is vlc..play everything with GUI...bmpx....try it and forget about "just" last.fm or shoutcast....

Finally, something to hold a candle to Windows Media Player...
I'll consider switching from amarok likely-- especially if the plugin allows for tempo shifting-- I've missed that ever since I made the jump-- Rap and Classical just isn't listen-able without it.

Banshee is a really good product, unfortunately it seems to have no support for UPnP which is a shame. It should be easy to add though, if we look at how little time we took at adding it in the Canola application for the Nokia Internet Tablets.

Thank you for this great review/tutorial. I wish all apps in linux has this kind of review/tutorial. Make moving to linux easy. I'm surprised to see comments that prefer this over that. Be thankful. It's FREE.

I don't like the "import" way of working. Can it work like Rhythmbox and just watch a folder for changes? Same goes for that other big Gnome Mono-app: fspot. I like to organize my stuff BOTH manually and with the aid of a program.
