Linux: the OS for the greedy
Posted by: PerlCoder on November 18, 2008 07:24 AM"They buy the next version of Windows, regardless of their need." The real success of Microsoft isn't that they've created a desktop OS that most people can use; rather, their "success" is that they managed to convince most people that their OS is the only one that should be used, regardless of how unpleasant or limited the experience actually is.
For me at least, my motivation for promoting Linux is a combination of altruism and self-interest. On the one hand, I want other people to enjoy the benifits and freedom that come with relying on FOSS. On the other hand, I realize that if more people use Linux, more resources will ultimately be poured into FOSS, which will eventually improve my personal FOSS experience.
