Subject: Linux "version" of Java
Just switched to Kubuntu from Windows. Need an application for running a video on You Tube. Can anyone help?

With Kubuntu you should already be set to go, unless perhaps you installed the 64-bit version. Are you using Konqueror or Firefox as your browser? If the required software is not already installed, then you should see a prompt/button to install the plugin. Follow it.

thing is, youtube checks your browser if it can run flash movies with java and hence display something about you needing flash instead of the usual "click here to install plugin" I can't say anything for java, but head over to another website with flash in it and you should be able to install 'normally'

What Kubuntu are you running? If you're runnning 7.10, do this: 1. Open a terminal 2. Type the command: sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras This will install MP3 support, DVD playback, Java plugin, and Flash plugin Cheers!
