First thing, have you ever ran virtual machines, if not, I would recommend finding a vendor (VMWare, Xen, Virtual Iron, etc) and getting comfortable with local desktop vm's. Once you start looking at the server versions, things get a little more complex.

You need to check out virtual machines before going for servers. I would recommend a "freeware" version from virtualbox for YOU to learn on. It would really work initially.

It sure does help - a lot. We have limited experience with VMware and need to give this a serious look for future setups. Thanks again!

I assumed you are looking to share a single server and have all the desktops driven by the server, i.e. thin clients. I've set up a similar system. Thin clients are useful, especially if you use Unix or Linux you can have one instance of a piece of software and, subject to the license restrictions, you can run it from as many nodes as you like. Keeping a single server updated is also much easier than keeping 50 PCs updated. Saves money and reduces resource needs.

There are number of vendors providing similar offerings. In the recent news, it was mentioned that the version 1.0 of MokaFive's Virtual Desktop Solution is a complete virtual desktop package. Anybody out there who has hands -on experience with MokaFive?

Well, the availability of such vendors today is pretty good. You must approach for a solution that combines the benefits of centralized management with the computing power and flexibility of the PC. MokaFive has an impressive technology that is easy to use and to apprehend. It enables to reduce the cost of doing business by improving the sales process. In order to fully demonstrate the capabilities of an enterprise security compliance software solution it normally takes significant time and effort. But with MokaFive LivePCs, demo setup is just a 5 min. process. For more info, check out: http://www.mokafive.com/

MokaFive is proving itself. Their unique format for creating virtual machines is called LivePC which updates dynamically, works from anywhere, and starts up in an instant. MokaFive centrally manages the entire lifecycle of users' virtual desktops.

I use vmware with virtualcenter it is great; we have over 150 virtual desktops. There are others but it depends on the platform you are using.

The technology that MokaFive uses is compatible with multi-platforms. Its LivePC can be installed on a desktop, laptop or any portable storage device. And,that’s something no other solution in the market provides.

I've tried Moka-five, VDI Networks, a variety of others, AND... www.g.ho.st.com which took me all of 30 seconds however it hasn't been . It boils down to ... how fast can you sign on? Moka-five requires a substantial download and is not software as a service (SAAS) but resides on the desktop. Sychron has been in the news for five years but has no "substantial" paying customers. They have, Seton, I believe, but as to a large-scale roll-out at Seton, it is doubtful. It is my understanding that Sychron is being funded on a month-to-month basis by a team that's never been outside Texas. I've reviewed several "in-the-know" companies, but they've all come up well short for anything above a hundred seats or so. Does anyone know of any large-scale productions that can, in fact, deliver this kind of service either directly or through the cloud (SaaS)?; they way everything is now going? Thanks, Roseland, NJ
