Subject: Moving from Windows..Directory structure
Hello, I am currently looking to move from Windows servers to a linux solution. When setting up a Windows server, I would configure in the following way: Bare disk let's just say 60 Gig. I would partition with a 20 gig slice for the operating system, 2 gig for the pagefile (swap), and the remainder for data. My question is this, ... On my linux setup I see a partiton for swap, boot, and usr. Is the boot partition where all of the linux os is stored? When additional programs are installed, are they to be installed in the boot partition? Is this the correct location? What is the usr directory for...data? I ask this as I want to setup the system in the proper way. Thank you for your help. Kell
