I have downlaoded a couple of programmes i want to use on my mandiva linux. I have the files here downlaoded but cannot work out how to actually install them on my system. with windows it was a simply double click on the icon and the programme installed, but I have tried all weekend to try to install nero for linux and p7-zip please, please help linux newbie

My guess is you downloaded a file like something.tar.gz right? if you you have to uncompress it first (tar -zxvf filename) and follow the instructions in the newly created directory.
