Subject: DOWNLOADING/INSTALING
can anybody please explain clearly how to instal a programme that has been downlaoded off the internet. also, when programmes are adverrised for linux, does this mean they can be installed on any linux distro ??? many thanks

Here is a very clearcut tutorial by a very knowledgeable guy. http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/linux-tutorials-howtos-reference-material/64958-how-install-software-linux.html Now if your still running in Mandriva have you updated your media software and packages by clicking on the red bottom right hand icon stating updates. After everything is updated go to add/remove software in your Menu choices and open it up to see if what you are trying to install is in the repositories. If it is just click the box and install. Otherwise use the tutorial I provided to install through the Terminal using command line. [Modified by: rokytnji on August 17, 2008 07:56 AM]
