Subject: umask 077
Hi. I set the umask in my /etc/profile on my desktop PC to 077 for greater security. I own a few other PCs and servers, and was planning to do the same with them. Before I do though, is there any downsides to this? This won't cause any problems down the road with, say, package installations or anything, will it?

I've had issues in HP-UX with package installation and that umask. It's more secure to make everything rw for the owner only, but I find it a pain in the @#$. Just remember if you want to install something to set your umask on the command line first to say 022.
