Subject: Anaconda problem using preupgrade for Fedora 9
Has anyone else encountered this problem? After downloading and installing the packages needed for an upgrade of F7 to F9 via # yum preupgrade the Anaconda installer refuses to continue past a point where stage 2 of grub is called. The problem seems to be that I have my /boot on another partition to / and Anaconda cannot locate it. I did this install successfully about six months ago by specifying where the iso image grub stg2 needs could be found. This time my work around plus other attempts all failed.

Download Super GRUB Disk at: http://www.supergrubdisk.org/ , burn it to a cd, and boot from this cd-rom to fix your GRUB configuration.

But really Anaconda should not care that /boot is on a separate partition; this is a fairly common configuration.

How is your disk partitioned? I would recommend a fresh install to F9 or F10. If your main files (/, /home) are in separate partitions, this would be the most straightforward thing to do.

I'm going to try Ubuntu for a change, then perhaps come back to Fedora around 12 or 13 when the preupgrade tool is honed a bit more.
