I want to make youtube videos, but I'm unsure how to proceed using linux. The idea I had is basically pasting together images and maybe some video and then putting some music in.

Just for editing you may try Cinerella and also LiVES (this is one of the easiest but wont install easily in ubuntu) http://lives.sourceforge.net/
