On Debian Lenny. geforce4 nvidia

what the best way to install video driver?

i learned that debian has run levels.
alt crtl f(1-7) gives run level.
7 Taking you back to xserver/gdm

learned run level 3.
/etc/init.d/gdm stop works here.
not on run level 1.

With my Debian installs I use an app called sgfxi. You can find more info about it here:

It identifies the card your using and installs the nvidia default driver, and it is capable of installing beta drivers also.
