You should look if your card is installed under ALSA, the pulse audio daemon uses alsa as the sink for the sound.
With the following command you can retrieve the information of your card:
[code]cat /proc/asound/cards[/code]
If your card is installed under ALSA, you should see the name of your card and a number assigned to it.
[code]0 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xf4480000 irq 18[/code]
if it's there you can look at the sound levels with this command
[code]alsamixer -c [/code] "number of your card"
