Hello all

I recently came into a 12" ibook g4, 512mb ram, 40gb drive, combo optical, 1.33ghz cpu & built in airport extreme. As you all know, mac os X leopard (10.5.8) is getting a bit long in the tooth and so I decided to install linux (lubuntu 12.10, then from there distro upgraded to 13.04) to squeeze a bit more life out of this good old machine. When the installation finished, I discovered that wifi and sound didn't work. I managed to fix the former but the latter still persists. I've looked through the extensive documentation on ubuntu's site as well as a site called "powerpc liberation" which is where I found the wifi fix. Both sites gave ways to fix the non-functioning sound and poor performing video. Some of which I tried but I either didn't do it right or wasn't the solution for my model. But most of it was just so far above my head that I didn't dare try for fear of screwing the system up. lol (scratches head) can ya help me make a bit of sense out of all this? if someone could walk me through this I would be very greatful.

I'm a newb to linux, and can't make heads or tales of anything command line related. do you know of a Scanner that uses a GUI?

I need a good free/paid virus and spyware scanner for linux. Not for the sake of my linux machines, from what I've read they
don't seem to need it. But for the sake of the windows machines on our network. our network connects to the net by going through a host computer, and that host computer has been getting slammed lately and I've been streaming quite a bit of youtube on my newest linux machine (used to be xp, and vista before that) as well as other sites like Hulu and ustream.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'll start by saying that Linux is GREAT!!!! I'm on Linux mint 32-bit, I love it! My Sony vaio Flys now!

My issue is this, every time I go to the Update manager and manually check for new updates this dialogue box appears.

What to do? I haven't a clue!

I almost forgot, yesterday i found out that one of my favourite programs (handbrake) finally updated, so I went to their site (http://www.handbrake.fr) to see if they made it available for linux again. they did, and they provided a 3rd party PPL. I'm wondering if this somehow changed the default ppl for the update manager

Please Advise.
