    RE: Blackberry mobile computing
During my first installation of Linux I was interested in security and selected kdefirewall and when I open it, it said that it was basically an untested program and use extreme caution as it might alter your computer's configurations, but I proceeded to try it and the results of that attempt screwed my settings and I had to do a complete re-installation of my 9.10 set up. I only went recently to try it again, as I was told to see what configurations were at my firewall, which may have been blocking access of the vnc Plus, desktop sharing program design for Linux so I could access my desktop remotely via my Blackberry device. After seeing the current warning message to try this program at your own risk and I change no settings with in it, but only to exit the program. When I exited it, a message stated that a reboot is required, and at that reboot, a message stated that updates are being installed..After it booted back up, the network Manager icon showed network disconnected and if I tried to click onto my desktop Icons, nothing happen. To make this story short, I tried recovery and finally I had to boot to safe mode, which allowed me to have some control of my environment, but it would not let me install / re-install anything with in my synaptic manager. I was told to delete my current network manager and reinstall it, but it denied me root access, even when I did "su " in my terminal command as well as in my ubuntu software center. I had to make the decision to do a clean install, cause it would not allow me to use the start up disk / repair disk I had. I run a dual boot Windows 7 and and Linux set up on the same drive and I use share folders to access my windows OS across the platform for certain files which will open in Linux environment [ pictures, documents, etc. ]. Sense I have them on a separate partisan, I decided to delete the partisan that Linux was on and start over, but when that process was done, it removed my Boot Manager and stated Grub has an error. I could not re install my bootmgr even using my windows 7 repair disk, so I was left with a total disastrous situation and had to do a hold complete system install of windows 7. I had my backup in place, so i was able to retain my programs, but this has been pure hell, and I now know to put linux on it's own drive separately. You live and you learn.....John

    RE: Blackberry mobile computing
Thank you for your answer, but now I face a more damaging situation. I was directed to check my firewall, which I had the KDEfirewall program, and when I engaged it to see if their was any exception, it totally F'ed up my network to the extent that everything went south of the boarder. My entire network is disabled and when I click onto my software center or most of my desktop icons, nothing opens up, not even my synaptic manger or terminal window. I am able to go to my guess window to try and perform repairs, but now I have no network manager icon to click onto and connect my network again. So my blackberry and vpn situation is entirely on hold. This kde firewall program screwed my system before and they knew to scrap the whole thing, as it clearly states dangerous warnings if you attempt to use it, causing unknown system corruptions. I wll let you know my updates when I stabilize my distribution. Trying to run my full install CD to access the repositories..John:angry:

    Blackberry mobile computing
I downloaded and application to my blackberry for mobile computing, but I am having a difficult time connecting to my desktop as the tech support personnel at RealVNC says I need to configure my network to accept incoming connection for authentication. The program work successfully the first two attempts, then failed afterwards. My host address is 69.136.230.132 and I provided my sign in password and there is a field stating direct TCP as the connection process. I have not intentionally changed any settings, but somehow they do not match the necessary parameters required by realvnc as they state to me to make sure the host address is correct as well as the host address is accessible through the network. I am awaiting them to give me their gateway address, as the one that was in my VPN connection field was for another program ( gate0.rdmplus.com, which is not theirs. I have desktop sharing enable for all incoming connections, but something is still not entered right. My teamviewer set up for Linux work perfectly and I have no firewall set up in Linux so there should be no exception to alow realvnc not to connect.:S

RE: Recording audio from alsa sound card
Ok..Maybe I made my request to complicated! [ Right ] I just need a sound recording software [ not Audacity ] that will use the sound card, and not the microphone as a capturing device!!! Also, what settings do I need to make to have ALSA Mixer sense the sound card directly and delete the microphone. When I turn off the microphone in Alsa mixer and use audacity, it will not record any sounds?

Recording audio from alsa sound card
Ok my respected Linux genius. This is my project. First I have a Windows / Linux combo OS set-up! In my windows, I use the latest realtex sound driver as this gives me complete control with recording output control and Microphone gain control. In the set-up, there is a stereo mixer component with is necessary to engage the direct sound recording from my sound card. To make this all come together, I use a sound recording software [ free sound recorder 9 ] and to convert the recording to a wma, wav, or meg, I use Roxio 10 to produce audio cd's to play on all CD Players. The challenge for me in Linux is to create the same set-up with Linux applications to produce the same professional results. Presently, my kubuntu 10.04 has Alsa sound drivers, with a version of realtek incorporated. I have the Alsa mixer software as well as Audacity as the sound recorder program. But no matter what I do, audacity depends on the microphone to record, which makes the final recording pure crap. If I lower the microphone boost or gain in my Alsa mix, then Audacity can not record the ambient sound from the speaker output and it will only recognize mono and pulse as the sound method. With the pre mention set up, Who has a set up identical to what is offered to windows that will do exactly the same for Linux. I basically want to record directly from the sound card in my Linux, without depending on using my microphone and then a CD burning program to make the conversion to MPEG or the necessary file format for the burned CD to play in all CD players, not just on a PC) I am trying to stay away from command line language in the terminal. I really need a replacement for Audacity, cause Free Sound Recorder is made for Windows Platform......I need a Linux sound Guru for the answer..... ALSO...I am not doing this to pirate music....I have over 3,450 music track inside my Rhapsody subscription and I like to record music for personal listening on my portable CD player and at 0.99 per track charge to do this in Rhapsody, I might as well by a recording studio and hire the singing artist.

RE: Image to my question on deleting programs
I proceeded to my computer janitor and it listed the kernel generic pae 20 and it's dependencies, and I deleted that particular kernel. I will go to my synaptic manager to delete the other names kernel / programs one by one to avoid any co-dependencies which might exist. I need to do this in a step by step process. I do not want to crash my main Kernel [ pae 24 ] as this seems to be the ' kubuntu main system. The computer janitor only listed the pae 20 program as not being supported anymore, and no other programs were listed. I will update you on my progress..Thank you, John ps: It would be so nice if Linux could make a package manager that can automatically install those .sh packages as well as the tar.bz. It is somewhat time consuming for us novice command line users to fiqure out the process or command lines to do this. Providing such a package manager, besides ' Gedit ' would steer more computer OS purchases to Linux for personal use...just a crazy suggestion.

RE: Complete crash of kubuntu 10.04
I was looking for some related questions and solutions to my problem, and I ventured to ubuntu site, and a article with the gnome power manager error message stated to try deleting space. I said, right..I can't even log on, so I when to my master boot and clicked the recover feature, which had a menu listing clear some space. It open up the command screen and allowed me to enter as root, and thank god I remembered some basic commands. I used the apt-get upgrade, cause the other problem before I booted out previously was a update that I believed got hung up during the boot down / restart to my windows setup. I was getting the low disk space message for over a week, and I have vuze and downloaded a movie having about 750 mb's, which was more than what was left available. I booted back up to my linux, and all the video display was normal and the color schemes were normal and the log in was normal. I have a lot of generic pae set ups in my boot log that I need to delete. This was done in my experimental stages. I need to know how to delete these additional programs [ enlightenment, KDE etc. ] I am providing an image of what I am talking about.

    Complete crash of kubuntu 10.04
I have a dual boot system using Window 7 and Unbuntu on the same drive with a boot logger. I went to boot to my unbuntu and a error message stated that: ' The configuration defaults for Gnome power manager has not been installed' It will show the start up scren and my log in password window, but it will not boot to the unbuntu OS / System. I tried the recovery mode and the actions listed. [ safe mode, and so on, but no results. The bad thing about this is, my windows 7 version is still an evaluations version, only allowing me 2 hours up time, before shutting down. I have a unbuntu ISO disk. Does this have a repair mode? When I run the recovery feature, it loads the information and ask for my password, which I enter the root command [ su ] and the password, I then enter the word ' login and it proceeds to say you have new mail, but I can enter no other command to continue to my system window, and the only other command it accepts is 'reboot' I need a resolution in a emergency to repair the gnome configuration. All my email and setting in kubuntu are not accessible, especially the draft mail I saved in my thunderbird. There was no advance visual warning of this failure, except a update previously before I booted down to go to my window 7. Both Operating systems share the same drive. I need immediate help. Could I download a patch or the configuration gnome power setup to a cd from linux?
