RE: Linksys drivers on Solus OS stable
The drivers are here: http://support.linksys.com/en-us/support/adapters/WUSB11 Since it was used with Windows 98SE, Me, and 2000, Marc's advice to use ndiswrapper is appropriate. I doubt if you're going to find anyone using a device that old to give you first hand experience with it, but, the manuals for the device are also listed on the link I gave you.

RE: installing Fedora 18 (latest release)
Which of the spins did you write to the usb drive? Fedora folks have been using dd to write the images to their usb sticks, I've never used yum(m)i myself. On the live cd's the install icon would be on the desktop, if it's not there, something must be amiss. Are you sure yumi doesn't install to the usb stick, instead of just transferring the live cd to the stick? If it installs to the usb stick, there won't be an option to install.

    RE: Updating Ubuntu grub
If you make your changes ONLY to /etc/default/grub, or, to the folders in /etc/grub.d/ and then execute update-grub. It should add those changes to grub.cfg. Any changes made to /etc/default/grub are overwritten by update-grub. There are 2 good Ubuntu postings on Grub2: here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2 and here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1664134 Or if your question is not answered, let me know. I'm hoping I understood what you were asking. And don't apologize, I often have to use a translator and have been disappointed at the results.

RE: Trying to decide. Need more information.
As mfillpot said, dual booting would be a definite plus. Especially if you're into Steam games. 2013 is going to an interesting year for Gamers and Linux. You can keep up with the progress here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410 I've also heard that besides Ubuntu, Fuduntu (The distro with the really strange name - It was originally a fork of Fedora with an Ubuntu sounding name.) also has the beta in it's repos. Now, if only someone had a Steam account.

RE: I have a question related to hardware and a possible purchase
I have two Core 2 Duo laptops, and they both run full blown KDE systems without any sign of slowing down. I agree with Izzy1512, your hardware is fine. Sure, with newer hardware, you could save a few seconds here and there, but, nothing worth the price of a new machine. It might be worth doing some research into how to optimize lubuntu. I bet fully optimized, you would notice a speed up that would make you think twice about needed a new machine.

RE: xlsfonts cant see fonts that chkfontpath has listed
I don't run Centos, but, from what I can remember from Fedora with Gnome 2, one needs to install the fonts in System-Settings in order for the system to see them. You can also use gconf-editor (I hope I remembered that name correctly) to change the font settings. You need to point the configuration files to the font folders in order to use them.
