RE: Which OS have I got!
Reading you reply it seems to imply that I need to know the answer to the question I'm asking! But maybe that's just my lack of understanding. I think the solution to my problem is best resolved by doing the obvious thing and asking Asus what they loaded on their notebook in the factory in the first place. I think that for people like me it's sensible to stick with Microsoft and leave the more esoteric stuff to guys like you. Thanks for your time and enjoy your day.

I'm afraid I have no idea how to do what you suggest although I'm grateful for your interest. Perhaps you can spell it out for me? Thanks.

RE: Which OS have I got!
Hi,mate Thanks for responding. Nothing appears on start up so when I come out of this I'll check for the terminal programme. I'm used to digging around in Windows which makes finding system info. easy but this is new to me so I'm learning as I go along - with your help I'm sure I'll get there! Hope you have a good day.

I've looked at the spec. for a number of external DVD writers but none say they are compatible with Linux OS. I've actually asked for some help in finding out which version of Linux this netbook uses elsewhere on this forum. Thanks for your time and reply I feel more confident about going out and buying a DVD writer now! Best wishes.

    Which OS have I got!
I've just bought an Asus EPC1000 Linux but can't find where it says what it actually is. I want to download a virus scanner from Avast but there are three versions offered presumably depending on what OS you have. Would anyone be able to enlighten me please. Thanks.
