I use the firefox add on "IE Tab". The bad thing is that addon is only for Windows systems. The good news is the community has posted work arounds for this via WINE. Here are the links. Perhaps this can help?

ISPs have the tendency to be very annoying and not inform you what the block. That is a big reason I avoid Comcast like the plague (I know you have COX...a few friends of mine have their service and have not had the nicest of things to say. I've never used them myself).

To answer your question, yes, if you want your server to be the authoritative DNS you would set your box up and the public facing IP as the NS.

You're A record is incorrect. That is a private IP address which is illegal to route in the public address range.

Since you have port forwarding on your router that will pass it to your webserver you should be good to go if you set up your router's IP address in the A record field instead of the 192.168 address. So you should have something that looks like:

You should be able to get inside the router and see what IP was assigned by your ISP since it is dynamic. Use that for your Total DNS. It will hit the router and that traffic should be redirected.

I'm not sure everything you done...but in the case of Ubuntu until you get more comfortable with command line I'd suggest you let the 'network manager' handle your connections.

If you right click on the network manager you will see an option to "edit connections". Since your office is not based on DHCP (meaning you have to manually configure your IP address, DNS, router/gateway) it would be easier for you to just set up your DSL and office LAN networks here. You can check to automatically connect on either one when you are changing locations.

What is the set up in your router? Everything you reference in your conf file is using a private IP address (the 192.168). That's why it works perfectly locally (internally). What address are you pointing your go daddy DNS to point to?

I just posted some thoughts on another forum reference exactly what I'm reading here. I'm in agreement these forums need tweaking. There is not enough functionality with it and it is too cramped.

I think this is coming because they are running it on Joomla or some portal similar to Joomla. I'm not a huge fan of pre-scripted portals. It's fine for sites that are about one thing or shopping, but for Linux.com to really grow and take off it needs tweaking.

This isn't criticism. It's observations that I hope the web developers and the principle admins take back to the table as they continue to make modifications. I'm hopeful they do...if not ultimately these boards will fail. I've noticed already there are so many posts that have low counts or views, and have been sitting idle for a long time. That's because it is limited. I posted to a forum and I couldn't read what it posted. It kept 'refreshing' to the same page. Odd.
