Subject: Customizable Linux?

I have already created a similar post, but I want to be more specific:

I have long wanted to create my own linux distribution, something that not only has the packages I want but also has the appearance and functions I want-basically I want to edit the source code really deeply and then compile it to run on a live cd where people can then install it. I have read several articles about "rolling your own linux distro", and they really don't answer my question. I have seen several articles that point to "Linux From Scratch", which I have looked into a bit, but I really don't know the full power of any of the tools. I want complete control over what my OS looks like (artwork created by me), as well as what it acts like, all based on some linux distro that I can use as a base without having to always say "Based on...", and thus can never call it my own. I know this may all seem pretty wild, but I would really appreciate an answer.

Thank You Very Much,
Arcelios

Arcelios, you may never be able to call it completely yours since whatever customizations you make to the Linux kernel, it still will be the Linux kernel. So, in this case, it will be called based on Kernel 2.6.x.x :)

And that's not a bad thing. Having a distro based on another distro does not make it less popular. There are distros based on Ubuntu, Fedora, and various live CDs, so that's not a bad thing.

You can base on your distro on any other distro, give it whatever name you want, change things the way you want them to be and there's no stopping you.

here's an excellently detailed tutorial on how to go about customizing a distro. It even tells you how to add your own artwork, apart from what applications it has and the works.
