Subject: background image resets to default on reboot

I cant get my background image to remain when I reboot. I can set the image, as I put my potential background wallpapers in the same folder as the default. But every time I restart the computer I am looking at the ugly envane.tif image which looks worse since my lcd is about 10 years old. light color images look great on the screen, but as I said, they won't stick!

I tried both the bsetbg and xsri commands to manually set the image. It does indeed switch to the image I tell it to, but again, at reboot, I am back to the envane.tif.

The background tool in the DSLpannel actually resets the image too. I can change the image to any that are in that folder (for some reason the tool has no button to change the folder). But even changing the image with that tool doesn't make that image my background when I reboot!

Any ideas on how to permanently change the image? I am using DSL with debian enabled and Fluxbox as the WM. Same issue when using JWM as the WM.

Just an update:

Still can't get a background to come back up upon reboot. But I did download some good themes. The GTK2 stuff is quite nice for fluxbox. It does change the background permanently, but does not let you use your own image either (resets to their default upon reset too). Whitebox is worthless, by the way. I can't quite figure out what it actually does.

I switched to Vector Linux. Man, that is a NICE distro. It gives you 3 different Window Managers. I still preffer JWM to Fluxbox, but there is also xfce if your computer is fast enough. As far as the background image setting problem: still has the same problem.

I finally worked around it. In the Fluxbox folder are several text documents to set up the Fluxbox environment. One is startup. Another is called 'lastwallpaper' or something like that. And the third name I can't recall. Either way, I went through all the text files looking for references to the background image and changed all of them. Finally, I am able to change the wallpaper!! Changing the image path in just one of any of these three files is not enough. Image will reset to default. You have to change it in all THREE.

Vector even came with a spiffy viewer program that has the option of 'set to background' under edit. It WILL change the background, but upon reboot or even restarting the WM, the IMAGE CHANGES BACK!!! WHY???!!! It makes no sense to have a feature like that and have it NOT WORK. It does this regardless of the WM I use. Oh well. At least I can do it in Fluxbox by editing the text files.

UPDATE: Switched back to DSL. I couldn't find that nice widget thingy that dsl comes with (shows drive info, processor, tasks, ram, etc.). So back to changing the filename of the default image and changing the image I want for the background to the default image name. This works pretty well, though you still see the default image momentarily while it boots. Once completely booted, it changes the image back to the one I want. Must be another file I need to edit. Turns out that fluxbox in dsl is configured differently than in vector.

The widgy thing is called Conky. I don't know if Gslapt has it in it though.
