YES ..and can be recommended. Having a well tested Linux version (Ubuntu, LinuxMint, openSuse, Mandriva...etc) can help you with Windows
issues..WinXp, Win7, Vista, win 2000..and Windows 8 (which can take a
few special steps to install) on most desktops and laptops. I myself have personnaly recovered lost Windows machines using Ubuntu..especially the LiveDVD versions...to the point that I now longer recommend anyone NOT install Linux on an intel system. I have even installed Debian 7.0 on a old powerpc mac G5..and the software will update...even though the macware won't.
