How to fix sudo modprobe returning ERROR?

I am installing a TP-LINK wireless adapter (TL-WN823N) on an old PC with no Wireless facility running Ubuntu. Using the driver and instructions downloaded from TP-LINK, I have got as far as inserting the compiled driver into the Linux kernel. Using "sudo modprobe 8192cu", this returns "ERROR: could not insert '8192cu': Device or resource busy". How to fix this? I am not fluent in UNIX/Linux.
