How to recover logon in GDM after a system has encrypted the user space and says to use 'activate-ecryptfs-private' to access your data?
What can I do to be able to logon to my Ubuntu 10.04 LTS when GRUB is working but when it goes past that the screen is all black and when something does come up it is all jumbled or crunched vertically. I can finally get to a point where I am able to go to console, but the other options at the message window do nothing. When I am at console, there is a phrase that tells me that I may have to 'activate-ecryptfs-private' to access my system. I am not understanding why this is doing this! I did an update in the update manager with a console window open and it asked me to reboot the system, so I closed the console window and then rebooted. Now it is this way. My LinuxMint8 (multiboot system) is working fine so it
is definitely the Ubuntu user space shell that has crashed somehow.
