I'm thinking of trying Linux for the first time, probably Ubuntu, but have several questions, 1st will I be able to access/convert my data mainly word. 2nd what do I do about the drivers/software for my motherboard, graphics card, usb WiFi adapter etc.
Answer to the question
I use and recommend Linux Lite (www.linuxliteos.com). You won't need to convert your Word documents. They can be accessed using the office suite included, which is Libre Office. As far as drivers are concerned, the Linux kernel in most cases has drivers included. Boot up to a version of Linux that has a "Live CD" option. Linux Lite does. Then you can see how it will perform before you actually do an install.
