Yesterday, I covered the announcement from OpenStack player Mirantis that it has nailed down a massive $100 million Series B funding round led by Insight Venture Partners. The financing is being billed as the largest Series B open source investment in history.
Analysts and observers are still digesting the news, and there are a few corrollary details worth noting. One is that the funding, according to Bloomberg, sets an approximate valuation of $800 million on Mirantis--nothing to shake a stick at. There are also tentative plans to do an IPO, which could arrive in 2016 according to many reports. Can small OpenStack players bloom into powerful public companies? The folks at Mirantis are saying yes.
