Addressing The Question Of FireWire 800 On iMacs

Kelly McNeill writes "Though Firewire 800 was initially deemed a professional connectivity standard, more and more consumer-focused devices are utilizing the faster of the two Firewire standards. Alan Wilder submitted the following editorial to osOpinion/osViews, which ponders the question, 'Why is Apple not filtering this technology to its consumer-based Macs' and 'why is the company sending mixed signals to these consumers by adopting the less-advanced USB standard for its iPod?'"
