Adopting Open Standards is not a radical move

Voodoo Press writes “The lights are beginning to shine through the FUD and marketing efforts of the corporate interests who say that Linux is more costly and has less features than its competition. The surest proof of this was evidenced in an article in this month’s Proceedings magazine in the Professional Notes section authored by Captain John W. Yarger, USMC, Information Systems Security Manager at the Marine Corps Training and Education Command.
The article, while not available online (subscription only), is a profound commentary on the reality of the need within the armed forces for using software that complies specifically to open standards. That is an idea that is diametrically opposed by vendors such as Microsoft, who would argue that open standards are dangerous and should not be allowed into government in any form.”
