Advanced Table Extends Qt Framework

mhatch writes “Cambridge, Mass. – February 17, 2004 – Integrated Computer Solutions, Inc. (ICS), the leading supplier of user interface development tools for professionals, announced today the general availability of QicsTable, a sophisticated grid/table object enabling Qt developers to build applications that include a more powerful spreadsheet-like user interface. Built on the Qt framework from Trolltech AS, applications written with QicsTable can run– without changes — on Windows, MacOS, Linux, and UNIX based systems.

Applications often use tables where a large amount of related data needs to be presented in the familiar rows-and-columns format. Demanding applications, such as those used in the animation, petrochemical, financial, and military sectors, often require more advanced functionality such as sorting, grouping, highlighting, and editing as well as the ability to insert widgets into cells and to assemble custom printouts. Until now, building these advanced functions with the native Qt components was difficult or impossible. QicsTable’s extended API gives developers a direct and easy-to-program way to provide table-based interfaces that respond to end-users’ demands.

“We discovered 18 months ago that developers in these demanding industries needed an advanced table for Qt and were investing man-years in creating their own,” said Mark Hatch, Chief Operating Officer of ICS. “With their needs in mind, we developed a high performance table component that enables a richer user experience while handling even the largest of data sets.”

“QicsTable provides a powerful add-on solution that helps Qt address the needs of Enterprise developers building high performance computing applications in animation, oil and gas, engineering, financial and aerospace industries,” stated Haavard Nord, Trolltech’s CEO. “We are pleased that ICS is committed to extending the range of product and training solutions available to Qt developers.”

QicsTable is available under both the GNU Public License (GPL) and a commercial source license. Source code is provided under both licenses, so that developers are able to build QicsTable in their specific development environment. Evaluation versions of QicsTable for Windows, Linux, and UNIX platforms can be downloaded from http://www.ics.com/qt .

In addition to QicsTable, ICS offers graphing and testing tools as well as training for Qt. GraphPak is an object-oriented programming library that provides software developers with a set of C++ objects to easily create charts or graphs that aid in the visual presentation of technical and business data. KD Executor is a noninvasive, advanced regression testing harness for Qt that uses the actual application to record tests that can be later played back on the target computer system to verify proper operation of the application.
