The R Project for Statistical Computing is an open source language and programming environment that provides a wide variety of data manipulation, statistical analysis, and data visualization capabilities. R is a successor to the S software originally developed at Bell Laboratories. R is a GNU project and is freely available under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
