Are End-Users Stuck On Stupid?

Anonymous Reader writes "An audit of IRS managers showed that 35% readily gave their user names and passwords to callers representing themselves as IRS IT trouble-shooters.

Surprised? Separate studies by Pew, Gartner, GfK NOP and Demopoulos Associates have come to similar conclusions: About 50% of web users are concerned about spam. The same percentage of users is aware of phishing and spyware. Among those in-the-know, how many have bothered trying to protect themselves? Very few.

Today's not-my-fault culture cries for somebody to blame for social engineering failures like these. Email Battles dutifully points out the culprits. -- Email Battles"
