Apparently hobo’s used chalk to put symbols near various landmarks during the great depression. This idea was taken and applied to wireless hotspots in various cities. They mention in the article about how Slashdot was one of the first sites to learn about warchalking. Score a point for Slashdot! Anyway’s its a good read for those who are curious about where to find and use wireless hot spots in your city.”
