Jeffrey Swartz writes “CARLSBAD, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 20, 2005–Arkeia Corp., an international provider of enterprise backup solutions, announced today the release of a plug-in for hot backup of Microsoft SQL Server data. The new Arkeia Network Backup plug-in protects MS SQL servers in a heterogeneous environment without interrupting running services.

Arkeia’s MS SQL hot backup plug-in takes full advantage of embedded capabilities in Microsoft SQL Server backup-and-restore functions. Arkeia developers incorporated Virtual Device Interface (VDI) technology to ensure a fast, reliable backup in Windows environments with a Linux or Unix backup server.

The online backup is easily configured through the Arkeia graphical user interface, providing single click selection of the data to be backed up or restored. Arkeia’s object-oriented architecture allows easy creation and modification of backup policy, no matter how complex or varied. Backup levels are configurable for Machine, SQL Server Instance, Database, File Group or Individual File.

Restore functions, including point-in-time recovery, can be fully automatic, or manually configured for specified databases, file groups or files.

“Linux servers are frequently operating in heterogeneous environments,” said Phil Roussel, Arkeia CEO. “Our new MS SQL Server hot backup plug-in provides a reliable solution for IT professionals who choose to protect Microsoft servers with Linux stability.”

Compatible with the company’s flagship product Arkeia Network Backup, the plug-in allows Arkeia users to protect their data without downtime for MS SQL servers.

The plug-in supports MS SQL server versions including SQL Server 7, SQL Server 2000 and later versions. Supported platforms include NT4 and NT Enterprise and Windows 2000/2003 Server. The plug-in is priced at $990. A release candidate version can be downloaded at www.arkeia.com/download/rc/.
