Leslie Cunningham writes “Wheat Ridge, Colorado, September 8, 2003 – Aspen Systems, Inc., a leader in the custom design, manufacture and service of a wide array of Linux®-based high-performance computing solutions, announces today the release of two new Glacier systems based on the Intel® Itanium® 2 processor and targeted specifically at high-performance computing (HPC).

The first of the new Intel Itanium 2 solutions is the Aspen Systems Glacier Dual Itanium 2 system including the new Itanium 2 processor with 1.4 GHz of power and 1.5 MB L3 cache optimized for HPC solutions. This Aspen Systems Glacier Dual Itanium 2 system is based on the newly released Intel® Server Platform SR870BH2 server platform and is available in a 2U rack-optimized form factor.

The second new solution offered by Aspen Systems is based on the new Low Voltage Intel Itanium 2 processor, and is available in a 2U and 4U rack-optimized form
factor. Aspen Systems’ new Glacier Dual and Quad Low Voltage Intel Itanium 2 systems boast lower power consumption, reducing the cost of higher scalability, which leads to a more economical price point for larger clusters. The new Low Voltage Intel Itanium 2 processor based solution with 1.0 GHz core clock frequency and 1.5 MB L3 cache is also based on the newly released Intel® Server Platform SR870BH2.

“Both of the new solutions offered by Aspen Systems are targeted at high-performance computing and scientific applications optimized for dual processor technical computing platforms and Beowulf clusters,” stated Tom Leinberger, Vice President of Sales at Aspen Systems. “Aspen Systems can now offer our specific target customers high-performance computing solutions with Itanium 2 processor performance at an Intel® Xeon(TM) processor price level.”

“Aspen’s systems based on the two new Intel Itanium 2 processors offer customers a compelling combination of performance, reliability and scaling in a lower power, lower cost solution,” said Phil Brace, director of marketing, Intel Enterprise Platform and Services Division. “We are excited to work together with Aspen by providing them key server building blocks to extend the options available to their customers.”
